Hello and thank you for your interest in this template! This is a free website template called Variant Mini, and it is a simple and useful XHTML/CSS-based design that shows the power of cascading style sheets. Three basic layout variations are included, and the design was created using less than 30 lines of CSS code and a couple of background images.

How to change the layout

The layout can be changed by editing div ID:s in the HTML code. This layout uses the div ID "content" together with a div with ID "sidebar". Inside the content div, there are two other div containers with the ID:s "left" and "right" which splits the content area in two halves. If you want a plain 2-column layout, just remove the two div:s and put all content directly in the content div. To get a single-column layout, rename the content div to id="contentfull" and remove the sidebar div and your content will fill the entire width of the layout.

The idea behind the design

  • Basic layout options that are easy to switch between.
  • Created to be a good starting point to learn and build from.
  • Simple code structure, minimal amount of CSS and only 3 background images used for the design.
  • Logo image can be used (size 750 x 160px) if wanted, or removed if not needed.
  • Horizontal navigation menu can be used if wanted, or removed if you prefer sidebar links.
